The Survival Guide for teenagers With ADD or ADHD is incredibly sensible and user friendly. There are eight well outlined chapters, starting with "What is ADHD?" and ending with "Eight ways in which to upset robust Feelings". A glossary helps with clinical vocabulary, and there are several reproducible pages which will be helpful in tracking progress and understanding that traits are most troublesome for the reader.

John F. Taylor, the author, presents attention problems to the reader as a challenge, however not as an insurmountable obstacle or an excuse for unhealthy behavior or poor tutorial performance. Taylor could be a PhD and founding father of ADD and, a corporation dedicated to serving to people and families stricken by ADD or ADHD. he's the daddy of 3 ADD children.

Taylor spells it out for teenagers who could get plenty of negative messages. "...Having ADHD doesn't suggest you're stupid, lazy, crazy, bad, or ill. It means there are some variations within the approach your brain works that cause you to show some ADHD traits." Chapter finish quizzes reinforce every section during a lighthearted manner. At the tip of chapter one, for instance:

"Sam has ADHD and thinks that reading books is boring. What will Sam learn from reading this book?"

A. the way to speak with aliens from a planet named Zatar

B. Where to seek out a stash of buried treasure

C.Ways to upset ADHD in school, at home, and with friends

There are several effective coping skills that children will learn which will offset the necessity for medication or enhance pharmaceutical treatment. The KITE call creating set up is one such tool. K is for knowing the case, I for identifying decisions, T for strive the simplest set up, and E is for analysis of how things went. KITE and different ways are mentioned very well, therefore children will work on creating positive changes.

I significantly appreciate the knowledge on the importance of diet. Chapter four is entirely concerning diet and the way it will have an effect on mood and behavior. several youngsters with ADD appear to be terribly sensitive to food dyes and preservatives which might exacerbate attention issues. simply drinking a lot of water could facilitate with concentration, and also the author suggests that even a number of little changes is also helpful.

I notice this a really wise and accessible book for teenagers 6-12. There are tips for staying organized, aiming to sleep, and obtaining beside others. Links for ADD connected websites are provided also. i am more than happy to suggest this book, dropped at us by the terribly astute and kid friendly folks at Free Spirit Publishing.
